- On March 2nd, during the annual Watershed Wide Event, organized by the Johnson Creek Watershed Council, about 20 volunteers came to plant native shrubs and trees along the creek at Westmoreland’s Union Manor retirement home.
- Union Manor has been the site of a three-year restoration effort led by Janet Johnson, director of the Friends of Crystal Springs Creek and member of the CSP. Through Janet’s hard work and a grant that she obtained we were able to plant several dozen shrubs and trees, including snowberry, cascara, and western red-cedar. Volunteers also spread mulch and removed some reed canary grass (a perennial favorite at this site). Much thanks to Janet and to JCWC for organizing the event and providing tools and plants.
